The five-person esports teams in the eLeague will be run by real-life NBA clubs, although it’s unclear if each of the NBA’s 30 franchises will operate its own squad in the NBA 2K18 MT eLeague.Competition in the eLeague will resemble the structure of a traditional sports schedule: head-to-head matchups over the course of a “regular season,” followed by a bracket-based playoffs setup leading to a championship showdown.“The popularity of NBA 2K with the young and growing eSports community provides a unique opportunity to develop something truly special for our fans and the gaming community,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver. “We look forward to combining our best-in-class NBA team operators with Take-Two’s competitive gaming expertise to create a brand new league experience.”Feature

The NBA 2K esports league will launch next year with to Buy NBA Live Coins teams for 17 NBA franchises, including the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, the NBA and publisher Take-Two Interactive announced today. Each of the 17 franchises will run its own five-person esports team to represent it in the NBA 2K league. That’s just over half of the NBA’s 30 clubs; here’s the full list:Boston CelticsCleveland CavaliersDallas MavericksDetroit PistonsGolden State WarriorsIndiana Pacers Memphis Grizzlies Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks New York KnicksOrlando MagicPhiladelphia 76ers Portland Trail Blazers Sacramento Kings Toronto Raptors Utah Jazz Washington Wizards NBA/2K Sports “This is the first step in what promises to nba18mt be an extraordinary league, bringing together the world’s best gamers and showcasing elite competition on an international stage,” said Brendan Donohue, the recently appointed managing director of the esports organization, in a news release.There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the selection of teams involved. Many big-market NBA clubs, like the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers and the Chicago Bulls, do not appear in the list.
